Load calculator
Container load calculator
How many pallets fit, what they weigh, and whether the box runs out of floor before it runs out of payload.
Set the box, the pallet and the stack height. The planner lays the load out in three dimensions and names what stopped it — the floor, the roof, the door aperture or the payload. It runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Figures you entered
- Pallet type: Euro pallet (EPAL 1)
- Number of pallets: 25
- Load height (cm): 110
- Weight / pallet (kg): 600
- Allow double stacking: —
Figures are indicative. Container internal dimensions are not standardised — ISO 668 fixes only the exterior, so the real box may differ by up to 20 mm in height and 120 kg in tare. Values shown follow Hapag-Lloyd's published fleet specification. Final loading capacity is subject to the actual container supplied, carrier approval and national road weight limits, which frequently bind before the container's own payload does.
What limits this load
Space, not weight
At 523 kg/m³ your pallets stay under the 958 kg/m³ threshold for this unit, so the floor fills at 25 pallets while the payload would still take 45. A longer or taller unit buys you more; a stronger one does not.

Loading advice
- Floor plan: run one column of 10 pallets lengthwise and a second column of 15 turned 90° alongside. That mix puts 25 on the floor instead of 20.
- There is head-room for a second tier (2,640 mm usable vs 1,244 mm per pallet). If the goods can carry a top tier, enabling stacking roughly doubles the box.

Where these numbers come from
Internal dimensions are not standardised. ISO 668 fixes the outside of a container and a minimum inside; the box that actually arrives varies by manufacturer and by age — some 20 mm of height and 120 kg of tare between carriers. The figures above are Hapag-Lloyd's published fleet specification, taken as one consistent source rather than averaged across several, because an average matches nobody. The planner lets you overwrite them.
The weight ceilings are the ones stamped on the plate, not the ones in the standard. ISO raised the theoretical maximum gross to 36,000 kg; real containers still carry CSC plates at 30,480 and 32,500 kg, and national road limits usually bind before either. The trailer payloads here are the conservative figure a 40-tonne gross leaves after tractor and trailer tare.
Pallet counts are computed, not quoted. Where the width allows it the planner sets two columns at ninety degrees to each other, which is how a 40' takes 25 Euro pallets instead of 20 — about a quarter more cargo in the same box, and the most useful thing on this page.
An estimate for planning. The figure that goes on a booking is confirmed against the actual container, the actual pallets and the carrier's own limits.
